Storage at X Gallery

We have clients who store only one or two objects, and clients who store a thousand or more. Whatever your storage needs, we promise a high level of customization and professionalism. Whether you are downsizing, moving, dispersing a collection, need more room in your studio, or your institution needs off-site storage, we have a solution for you.

Stored objects are cared for by a professional team, led by a Collection Manager who knows where each object in our vault is located. Every object is tracked and tied to a photograph in our digital portal, allowing you to privately view your collection, and communicate directly with our Collection Manager.

For out of state clients, we also offer combined storage/display solutions designed to help meet your needs.

Questions?

How do you charge for storage? Stored objects are packaged and shelved according to size, safety, and compatibility with surrounding items. Storage pricing is based on the volume of each stored object, allowing us to charge only for the storage space actually being used.

Is it okay to store only for a short time? Yes—objects can be stored for as short as one month or for multiple years.

If I commit to a longer storage period, do I qualify for any kind of discount? We do offer discounted rates based on long-term storage and we will work with you to create a customized contract that considers both volume and duration.

Can I get an estimate for my storage fees? Absolutely. If you want to send us the measurements of the pieces you will be storing, we will compose an estimate based on that information. For smaller collections, we can arrange a site visit to take preliminary measurements ourselves. Once the objects are delivered to our vaults, we will take exact measurements to determine the most accurate final pricing.

What would cause the estimate to change? Some common factors that can cause a discrepancy are:

  • a difference in the number of pieces in the estimate and the final number of pieces delivered;

  • incomplete measurements;

  • measurements provided are for the artwork piece itself, but it arrives in packaging or a crate (which changes the dimensions).

  • objects that require special distance from other objects to be safely stored, for example a painting that with heavy impasto or a sculpture with very fine appendages.
